This Graph Changed My Life

Seneca once said we should always allow some time to elapse, for time discloses the truth.

We all have that friend who says they want to lose weight, make more money and improve their mental health every time you meet them, yet they never do. Why is that?

I realised that there is a stark difference between how successful people approach their goals vs how unsuccessful people do.

Mediocre people love to talk about success as an outcome but they never talk about the systems, actions and habits that lead to the end result.

Successful people are the exact opposite, they use their goals as the north star but are obsessed with systems or habits that are required to reach the goal.

Our outcomes are a lagging measure of our habits.

So how do successful people work towards their goals. They focus on their daily habits and strive for small consistent improvements on a long enough timeline.

They try to improve 1% everyday. The keyword being everyday. I know what you are saying "Saurabh that seems far fetched". But it is simple math, if you get 1% better everyday you will end up 37 times better by the end of the year.

Warren Buffet once said compounding is the eighth wonder of the world. Successful people understand this principle and leverage it.

On the first day there is hardly any difference between the person who eats right and exercises vs the person who eats junk and watches Netflix. But as time passes these small differences in habits compound and lead to massive differences in outcome.

Mastering your habits is the key to success. Every choice you make is a vote to take you one step closer or away from your dream life. Make sure you chose wisely. Don't sacrifice the ultimate reward for the immediate reward.
